Invest In Metal Skewers

Wooden skewers are great, but in an age of trying to have minimal waste, why not invest in some metal skewers.

These are not just eco-friendly, but also help your chicken skewers to cook from the inside out, helping you get a nice, even cook on your skewers.

If you are using wooden skewers, please make sure that you soak them in water for at least 5 minutes before threading on your chicken and veg. This will make sure that they do not set alight on your BBQ or in your oven.

Can I Eat Honey On Keto?

‘Normal’ honey has over 80 grams of sugar per 100 grams. This means, that as delicious as it is – it is definitely NOT keto-friendly!

So how can I make HONEY Garlic Chicken Skewers without honey? I hear you ask! Don’t worry, I’m not going crazy.

The Skinny Food Co does keto-friendly condiments, including honey. Their products are sugar-free and contain keto-friendly ingredients.

The other swap you need to make for this is the dark soy sauce for coconut aminos. This is the perfect low-carb, keto-friendly, soy sauce substitute. I use it in all of my Chinese cooking.

Top Tip 1: Keto Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers: Cutting your Ingredients

When you are cutting your chicken and your veg (for this I used peppers, but I will normally add courgette too) make sure you cut your vegetables slightly smaller than your chicken.

There are two reasons for this.

Firstly, your chicken will take longer to cook than the vegetables, so will need closer contact with the grill.

Secondly, your chicken will shrink when it is cooked, which will make it a similar size to your vegetables.

Top Tip 2: Keto Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers: Spacing your Ingredients

As you load up your metal skewers, leave a small gap between each item, I tend to look at them being around 3mm apart. This allows the heat to circulate around all of the items, ensuring they cook through.

Always check that your chicken is cooked through before serving. If it isn’t – you can always pop your BBQ items into the oven for 5-10 minutes in order to finish off cooking, without missing out on the lovely, BBQ’d, smoky taste!

If you are new to BBQing or just want to make sure your food is cooked through, you can always use a meat thermometer to check that your meat is at the desired temperature.
