Mindful eating is a practice that involves paying attention to the present moment while consuming food, and taking notice of the flavors, textures, and sensations in your body.
This approach helps us become more attuned to our hunger cues, making it easier to make healthier choices and avoid overeating.
And the best part?
You can incorporate mindful eating into any diet or lifestyle, including keto.
In this article, we’ll explore what mindful eating is all about and share some tips for how you can start incorporating it into your keto routine.
Let’s get going….
What Is Mindful Eating
Mindful eating is a concept that involves being aware of your relationship with food, noticing the sensations and emotions related to eating, and making intentional choices about what you eat.
It’s all about bringing attention and awareness to the act of eating.
Mindful eating can be particularly beneficial for those on the keto diet who are trying to develop healthier habits around their food choices.
By paying close attention to how certain foods make you feel physically and emotionally, you can start to identify patterns in your behavior when it comes to eating.
This heightened level of awareness allows you to make more informed decisions about which foods will support your health goals while also allowing yourself some flexibility within the keto framework.
Overall, practicing mindful eating can help shift your focus from external rules or restrictions towards internal cues that guide you toward nourishing and satisfying meals.
Benefits Of Mindful Eating
As we learned in the previous section, mindful eating is all about being present while enjoying your food.
Did you know that a study conducted by Harvard Health found that mindfulness can help reduce binge-eating behaviors and improve one’s relationship with foods?
In fact, incorporating mindful eating into your daily routine can lead to overall enjoyment of food and promote healthy weight management.
Mindful eating isn’t just about what you eat; it’s also about how you eat.
By slowing down and savoring each bite, you allow yourself to truly taste and appreciate the flavors in your meal.
This can lead to a greater sense of satisfaction after meals, as well as improved digestion and energy levels.
Due to keto being high in fat, you will naturally feel less hungry on keto than other diets. Combine this with mindful eating and you could be onto a winner of enjoying your food more, whilst eating less.
So why not try incorporating some mindfulness techniques into your keto journey?

How To Combine Mindful Eating With Keto
If you’re on the keto diet, incorporating mindful eating into your routine can help you achieve body satisfaction while developing healthy habits.
Mindful eating is all about paying attention to internal hunger cues and being present at the moment when consuming food.
This means avoiding distractions like phones or TV shows while eating and focusing solely on what’s on your plate. Yes, I know this can be a challenge!
To combine mindful eating with keto, start by planning your meals ahead of time.
This will allow you to have a better understanding of portion sizes and ensure that you are getting all the necessary nutrients from your chosen foods.
I know whilst I’ve been on keto, I’ve been good at tracking my macros, and then I get lazy, which means my portion sizes gradually increase.
When it comes time to eat, take a few deep breaths before starting and focus on appreciating the taste and texture of each bite.
Remember to stop when feeling full rather than finishing everything on the plate simply because it’s there.
List Of Mindful Eating Practices
By practicing mindful eating alongside keto, not only will you enjoy your meals more fully but also create long-lasting healthy habits for sustainable weight loss results.
Here is a list of some mindful eating techniques you may want to incorporate into keto meal time.
1. Start meals with a few deep breaths to create a mindful atmosphere.
2. Slow down and really savor each bite of food, paying attention to its flavors and textures.
3. Avoid distractions like phones or TV while eating so that you are fully present with your meal.
4. Plan meals ahead of time to ensure portion control and provide yourself with the necessary nutrients for optimal health.
5. Eat until you feel comfortably full rather than completely stuffed after every meal.
6. Take time to appreciate the nourishment food provides for our bodies and minds, rather than seeing it as only fuel or calories.
7. Think about the food you are about to eat and consider saying some affirmations of gratitude, or what your health means to you.
You do not need to do all of these, start off by choosing a few to prioritize.
Other Mindfulness Practices
Incorporating mindfulness practices such as meditation or yoga alongside keto can further enhance overall well-being both physically and mentally.
Experimenting with new recipes and ingredients can also make mealtime more exciting which can lead to an increase in motivation toward healthy living.
Whatever method works best for you, remember that combining mindful eating with keto creates a powerful tool for achieving optimal health while still enjoying delicious meals every day!
My Experience
I’ll be honest, I don’t always practice mindful eating alongside eating keto. I am terrible for eating lunch at my desk at work.
If I’m at home, I will often eat breakfast, or lunch stood at the counter top whilst doing chores, or scrolling through my phone.
Every now and aging, I take a step back and do try to sit down at the table on my own, leave my phone on the side and practice mindful eating.
The difference is always remarkable.
I always feel fuller before I’ve finished my meal, and somehow, I feel calmer and more centered.
Mindful eating is something that I definitely need to practice more.
